Teens who experience cyberbullying are more likely to have depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. For example: in a cohort in India, cyberbullying victims were about 2× more likely to show depressive symptoms, and about 2.5× more likely to consider suicide, than those not cyberbullied.
Among “tweens” (younger kids, 9-12), nearly 70% of those cyberbullied said it negatively impacted how they feel about themselves.
Other effects include damaging friendships, physical health issues (e.g. sleep, headaches), lower self-esteem, and difficulties at school.
